a toddler’s smile
his toothy grin,
excitement uncontained
the delighted squeal
bright orange freckles popping
as colors of shredded paper fill the air like a blast of confetti
giggles as the impatient child waits for me to wrestle the casing
from the present within
my little one puts on his helmet and puts the car into gear
he’s wearing blue overalls covered in grape juice
a little red race car zooms across the floor
the imagination screaming around as the engine starts up
as this little toy warms my heart
a mother’s joy
